Sweet Haven: Gourmet Apple Paradise

Sweet Haven Dessert Universe is one of my favorite “secret” spots in Fairhaven for specialty desserts. It’s perfectly hidden in plain sight on 1005 Harris Ave as one of the two shops between the corner stores Whimsey Jewelry and Jalapeños. Sweet Haven has one of my favorite treats that is not commonly seen: Gourmet Apples.

These apples and this shop hold an even more special place in my heart because those Gourmet Apples were what we served at our wedding party. We scooped the apples up the morning of, traveled with them to the venue, then hours later cut them up and my husband and I walked them around with toothpicks to all our guests thanking them for coming as they enjoyed a caramel apple slice (or two… or three… or four…). These days, Sweet Haven offers catering, which is a glorious option for bigger weddings or events! We just waltzed in day-of and snagged a dozen and served 100 people.

I know what you’re thinking: Sticky. Messy. Too sweet. Cavities. Now, let me strike down every woe you’ve ever experienced with a caramel apple treat. The apples at Sweet Haven are fresh green apples with the perfect balance of crisp tartness that compliments the thin and flavorful caramel. Then the shop goes a step further and decorates them in different flavors. Some of the flavors include: Sea Salt, coconut, Butter Finger, Birthday Cake, and dark Oreo and white Oreo.

The apples are easy to takeout or sit and enjoy in their dining space because they cut up the apples for you. They keep the apples in cups, cut them into perfect slices, and give you a sturdy toothpick/skewer to use to snag the next flavorful bite and wrap the whole kit and caboodle up in bag.

I’m obsessed.

I’ve also had the joy of meeting Sabrina, one of the new owners who took the shop over in 2024. I learned so much about the shop through her eyes. It’s a truly wonderful experience to meet the family behind the “family-owned” tagline.

Walking into Sweet Haven is a delight, it’s bright, cozy, and has plenty of seating to enjoy your treats. They have a wall right as you walk in with goodies at the ready to pick and at the counter is a beautiful display of more chocolate dipped treats, delicious cake slices, lemon bars, Nanaimo bars, and so much more.

We treated ourselves to a Sweet Haven S’more which Sabrina fire toasted for us on the spot and made the entire shop smell like a gooey-pure-marshmallow. Then we had our choice of graham cracker, Chef picked cinnamon graham crackers of course. We enjoyed the tasty treat at a table before grabbing chocolate-dipped rice-krispies to give to a friend.

You’ll find what your heart craves at Sweet Haven

From a friendly-interaction to a caramel apple in Bellingham. Just get one and take it to a friend — I do this regularly and it receives wide-eyed glee from each person who tries it. Not to mention, it’s the thing my wedding guests still talk to me about the most… Not my dress, not the multiple 48” size pizzas, everyone begs to know: Where did the caramel apples come from again? Sweet Haven.
