Little Libraries
Lately, I’ve seen more people walking and reading at the same time (a skill I certainly don’t have). Something about the sunshine causes people in Bellingham to find a book and sprawl on the nearest green space. I absolutely love it. As Chef and I begin to take more walks around all the wonderful neighborhoods in Bellingham I love noticing all of Bellingham’s Little Libraries. We have so many, just check out the interactive map below or click here, you’ll have to put in our zip-code, but voilà! A map of our own Little libraries!
What are Little Libraries?
A “Little Free Library” are book-sharing boxes which are meant to be open 24-hours a day, seven days a week, and are freely accessible to all— removing barriers to book access. Around Bellingham most are officially registered as Little Libraries, but there are a few that have just popped up in neighborhoods. The official Little Free Library nonprofit says: “Little Free Library is a nonprofit organization based in St. Paul, Minnesota. Our mission is to be a catalyst for building community, inspiring readers, and expanding book access for all through a global network of volunteer-led Little Free Library book-exchange boxes.”
Little Free Library in Bellingham
I’ve always been impressed by the selection of options in the book-sharing boxes around Bellingham. They aren’t books that you’ll never ever read, most of the titles I do recognize or have read myself. They range from kids books to adult books and my favorite thing about them is all the different styles of little libraries that I can find across the Bellingham community. Each library was certainly built with care and the books survive the rainy season extremely well!
Let’s get reading this year!I have a few books I’ve collected and bestowed to the Little Library I adventure too on walks. I should probably focus in this Spring and Summer and really get reading!
Thank you for reading "Little Libraries"
