Best Bookstores for Bookworms
No matter the season, my mind can conjure a visual for reading. Winter by the fire with hot chocolate and a book. Autumn sunset colors sprawled across the black and white text. A Spring breeze fluttering the pages. And of course, a book on the beach on a Summer day.
So, if there is a reading scene for every season. Where can you find the books to be the main character in those settings? Bellingham Bookstores are top-tier and vary in style that will make any book lover flutter. So let’s get into it! The Best Bookstores for Bookworms in Bellingham!
Village Books & Paper Dreams
If that name alone doesn’t strike your reading heart, I don’t know what will. This is one of the most well-known book spots in Bellingham. It’s a large independent bookstore in Fairhaven that has new and used books, a delightful cafe (I wrote about The Next Chapter Cafe — A must eat at spot!), plus author and community events regularly. I love to pop into this bookstore whenever I go for a walk or visit to Fairhaven. It’s just one of those places that sucks you in and you can tell the employees care about the space and are very knowledgeable about authors and stories. Plus the second story has a great view of the water.
Eclipse Bookstore
Let’s stay in Fairhaven for this next one. This book store is something out of a Ghibli movie. Books piled high welcome you inside and from floor to ceiling and stacks upon stacks of books towering over you. Yet, it is well organized with genres across the entire spectrum of books. This one is a hidden treat or booklovers and is probably the most Instagrammable spot to snap a photo. It is one of the most immersive browsing experiences I’ve ever had and I love exploring upstairs and downstairs. They don’t have a website but Eclipse Bookstore is located at: 1104 11th St, Bellingham, WA 98225
Henderson Books
Downtown Bellingham boosts a fine-used bookstore at Henderson’s Books. An Iconic bright-blue storefront has graced Grand Ave since 1986 with a massive inventory, some sourced I came across say 300,000 books! Hard to believe that tops Eclipse Bookstore, but it’s isn’t a competition since we ALL win when we have access to more books!
Comics Place
Comics are books too!! But you already knew that, because you love books too. I adore this spot in Downtown. It has moved several times since I started living in Bellingham and each move has made it better and build more of a community for the comic book community, board-game aficionados, and I believe Magic the Gather folks too! This is another spot that if I’m downtown I’ll wander into because they always have something new on display. This is also my favorite spot to shop for manga. Though it’s been awhile since I’ve dived into a series — Now if you want to talk about seasonal anime airing I can do that. BUT Books! Books! We are focusing on books. Comics Place is first-class and you simply must give them a visit.
Honor’s Roll
I wanted to mention some additional bookstores and spots for books that are worth a go to across Bellingham:
Barnes & Noble — A national chain offering a wide range of new releases, bestsellers, and children’s books.
Western Associated Students Bookstore — Located at Western Washington University, this spot carries textbooks along with a modest selection of general-interest books and bestsellers. Plus some awesome WWU gear that can only be found on-campus.
Half Price Books — A chain retailer on Meridian St offering a vast selection of used books, kids’ titles, and more.
Treasure-Hunting for Books? Bellingham’s treasure-chests are FULL!
I love the variety of options Bellingham has available. Plus the library system in Bellingham is a complete story in itself that I’ll try and share soon! But for now, go get a pastry, enjoys views of the water, and read that book you’ve been wanting!
