LaFeen’s Family Pride Donuts and Ice Cream

These days, I’ll be honest, it’s hard to find local donuts in Bellingham. We’ve had several donut spots close up over the years I’ve lived here but I am so thankful that there is one that has survived and thrived and is just this time-capsule for those doughy-delicious cravings we all love… Donuts.

LaFeen’s Family Pride Donuts and Ice Cream located at 1466 Electric Ave, Bellingham, WA 98229 is a donut shop that serves the classic Apple Fritters, Bear Claws, Cake Donuts, eclairs, Maple Bars, Cruller, and my go-to Donut Holes.

Inside LaFeen’s Donut Shop

When you cruise up to LaFeen’s shop you might not realize what goodness awaits you in this little building with a classic looking gas station in front of it. Parking tends to be easy, though in the summer it certainly fills up, luckily they are open from 6 AM until after 10 PM most nights, so everyone can get their donuts-cravings filled.

When you walk in you are transported into classic diner-feeling space and the display case of donuts greet you and you almost get sucked into the shop as your feet just walk you up to the glass of donut options.

What impresses me, is no matter when I go to LaFeen’s there are always so many options. I have no doubt they have days where they sell out, but I can appreciate a donut shop that has the variety to choose from regardless of the time of day I pop in.

After you’ve made your selection you get rung up at the cash register. The biggest gripe I hear from my fellow locals is that if you pay with card there is a percent transaction fee. There are several signs informing you of this so it’s not really a surprise. Don’t want to pay that? Just bring your cash! Then you’re out the other door, it’s this incredible circle from in to out… Or maybe it’s more like a donut with seating in the middle.

The donuts themselves are exactly what you need when you want a good donut. They are soft, fresh, flavorful. I find they aren’t so sweet where you bite into it and your mouth does that wild ZING of sugar. Chef and I always love grabbing a few on summer days and eating them at a park or visiting friends with some fresh donuts.

Truth be told, I’m not the biggest donut person, I grew up with Tim Horton’s as a little kid and I’ll admit the one donut shop that really made me stop and evaluate my love of donuts was Benny’s Donuts in Corvallis, Oregon. Now, unless a trip to Canada or Oregon on are on the docket the only donut shop that has helped me through the, “I need one,” has been LaFeen’s!

Need More Than Donuts?

As LaFeen’s name suggests they also serve ice cream! Those big classic tubs of ice cream. According to their Google profile, the ice cream is from Edaleen Dairy in Lynden, WA — One of our favorite local ice creams.

LaFeen’s is truly a staple and I am so thankful it has been a tempting pit-stop for so many locals. It has that quirky feel when you walk in, but it’s welcoming and you walk out with donuts, what more could you want?

For the love of Doughnuts & Donuts!

Whether you’re a “Doughnut” or “Donut” enjoyer — Which I have learned, “Both "donut" and "doughnut" are correct, with "doughnut" being the original and more formal spelling, while "donut" is a common, simplified American variant popularized by Dunkin'“ you can’t go wrong grabbing your donut favorite at LaFeens!
